The Nakba of Haifa, 1948 – نكبة حيفا was created on the 70th anniversary of the expulsion of Palestinians from the city. The work brings together personal memory and collective history in a single composition.
At the center stands the artist’s father. He refused to leave Haifa during the mass exodus of 22 April 1948. As a result, his presence anchors the painting in both resistance and continuity.

On the left, the forced expulsion of Palestinians from Haifa appears in motion and tension. On the right, families depart by sea toward Acre and, later, to Lebanon. Meanwhile, the central figure remains still. This contrast reinforces the tension between departure and staying.
Therefore, the composition does not only document events. It also constructs a visual narrative of loss, movement, and rootedness.
