The painting that will Never Leave Haifa

Last night, the Haifa Museum of Art celebrated an important addition to its art collection: an artwork by Haifa born artist Abed Abdi. A group of Palestinian and Jewish donors recently acquired from Abed Abdi the painting titled “Refugees Waiting to Return,” and donated the artwork to Haifa Museum of Art, on the condition that it will remain in the museum’s collection.

This special initiative was led by Professor Elias Tobi, with the participation of a group of interested people from Haifa, including dr. Issa Nicola, dr. Khaled Turki Daoud, Professor Edward Abi Nader, dr. Sohail Asaad, mr. Aharon Shabtai and mrs. Osnat Rabi and others.

The painting was displayed in the museum as part of the comprehensive exhibition titled 70 years for the founding of the Haifa Museum of Art, curated by chief curator Dr. Kobi Ben Meir.
It ought to be noted that this is the first artwork by Abed Abdi which enters the collection of Haifa Museum of Art. The second artwork in its collection by Abed Abdi was donated to the Haifa Museum of Art by the artist himself.
