Before the Blast Reaches Us

Created during the Iran–Israel war, as missiles struck Haifa, this painting captures the artist’s daily descent into the shelter—sometimes three to four times a day—climbing 30 stairs and the sloped street each time.

This artwork captures a suspended moment of human vulnerability—a family confined within a wartime shelter, caught in the unbearable tension between sound and impact. The work explores the psychological weight of anticipation, where fear is not in the explosion itself, but in the seconds before it arrives.

Rendered with emotional precision, this artwork speaks to universal experiences of conflict, displacement, and survival. The confined space becomes both refuge and prison, while the unseen violence above transforms silence into something oppressive and alive.
